Noise

It starts as just irritation. A metaphorical crawling under your skin. Things are too noisy, too bright, there is too much happening all the time and you can't take it all in-

Then silence it, make it yours, make it you, take control and destroy what will not submit

It sounds so inviting, a freedom from the noise, but its wrong, its wrong, its wrong and the noise is getting louder, mechanical and foreboding as it sees you, it knows you are there, and it wants to make you apart of it.

Yes. We end up with limited options - sometimes it's just about making us uncomfortable. Sometimes it's about who's going to get hurt.

[Aloy will go over and attempt to claim a screen to work with, doing her best to put in data she knows. Data she's had to live with. And present to the snapper.]

Here's what I'm thinking instead. I - don't know how to make them myself. But I know you're better at me than this. Instead of hiding away, we remove the threat.

[He's asked her to draw up the pullcaster before, so hey. She'll try to draw up on the screen: to the left a fucking electric pulse bomb, on a scale for swarm warfare. To the right - a silver-haired man in sterile, futuristic clothes, lunging forward without a care as Aloy's arrows glance off an energy field that surrounds him.]

We didn't have much choice.

[Another screen pops up.]

[There is a man bundled in winter clothes, along with three other kids. THe man isn't very tall, but you're smaller, and there's fur on his face.]

[Do not wander from the alley. You can play in the snow, you can watch, but do not talk to the people. Hide your faces if anyone approaches and tell them you're waiting for me. If they give you too much attention, Red, get all of you back in the sewer.]

Humans are not kind to what is different.

[He does look to the screen.] A bomb won't do much for the snake. [Though, there is a pause at the man.] A personal force field?

[Her face falls, seeing the memory. And hey, if she's still able to, a window for her screen: a short point of view, wobbling down a trail in the grass, mumbling to herself. A jerk, a cry of pain! A hand going to her forehead, coming away with blood. A boy taunts, no-mother, as he picks up another rock to throw.]

Stupid and petty.

[She swallows, and gets back to her planning.]

I was thinking the bomb might, if we could just get it exposed. No snake, no sacrifices. For the field - I think they perfected a prototype design of some armor I scavenged. There was data reporting on its development progress - some kind of 'hard light projector?'

They are. Individuals can be good, but in a group, the stupider and more petty they get.

We'll likely need something bigger. The snake has easily been able to repress and reactive our ninpo, and that is not an easy feat. [There is a flash of another screen, alien creatures on it, the same pink that was intermixed with the purple above.]

Though...

[He grabs another screen and text appears, all in that same pink.] They do have more massive weapons and that might be enough.

[The red box starts to vibrate like mad.]

I have made hard light projectors before. [Another screen pops up with schematics, but he's focused on the pink text, scanning through it.]

And if they need to, they'll make a difference. Push you out, and keep you there -

[That's quick; she mostly catches the color. And it makes her wonder about what Donnie's reading, but she can't look into everything all at once. She falls back on her usual time management: try to scan the schematics with the goggles, to at least have data to review, before turning back to the red box.]

[Starting to step over to the box.]

That too. April suffers that. She's a perfectly charming human, and yet she still gets treated like an outcast just for being a little eccentric.

[He's flipping through the screen, scanning through the info.]

I did. Its more recent. Took almost two years after I made holograms, and they do take a lot of power. Mystic fabrications are good to make up that difference, the energy converts easier, but I have managed real ones.

No. This is the room with all the safeties confirmed, everything in Beta is still in the lab.

An outcast. . .I’d like to meet her.

[She makes a face at the confirmed safeties. How many people say things like that to her, only to immediately find out about hubris? Aloy will sit down next to the box, and start investigating it. Seams, latches that the goggles can find?]

Well. I don’t know much about mystic fabrications. But if the snake can repress your, uh, ninpo, then a reliable power source and hard light projectors will be the best approach.

[Donnie is full of hubris, but to be fair, he does mean it. Its Lab that might explode.]

[The box is vibrating and this closer, it certainly sounds more like something is actually hitting it on the inside? Though even with the goggles, it appears to be a perfectly sealed box. No latches or seems, though the camera part of the goggles don't seem able to see the red energy?]

That is the hard part. There isn't any efficient energy source around yet that ISN'T magic. Anything mundane will take something big and that makes it hard to cart around./

What about something the size of a backpack? Even if it puts a limit on how long it can run at a time. We had Erend carry something like that - if he could do it, I probably could, too.

[Is there something sharp around that she could use to start cutting her own seam? If there is, she’ll do that.]

Eeeeeeeh. Maybe I can make a generator like that with the parts we have, but it will be heavy.

[She does have an axe in her crafting table toolset and there are also things like swords and kunai about.]

[She'll select a sword for this job! Doesn't want to accidentally harvest this box for crafting material. Besides, maybe she can use the sword later.]

[Which is enough to allow the box to break open in energetic red burst as suddenly there is a red light construct of Raph there.]

Donnie, stop using Kraang stuff! [And he is Very Concerned]

[A shout, and she drops the box as it bursts, bringing up the sword!

-Oh. A hologram?

[Pokes Raph to confirm.]

[She can poke. He is a Very Solid Presence.]

Not a hologram, either. . .So this must be their version of hard light?

[Shakes her head.]

Okay, I don’t think we have time for a full family argument. Raph, I’m. . .starting to think he’s got a point, here.
