Noise

It starts as just irritation. A metaphorical crawling under your skin. Things are too noisy, too bright, there is too much happening all the time and you can't take it all in-

Then silence it, make it yours, make it you, take control and destroy what will not submit

It sounds so inviting, a freedom from the noise, but its wrong, its wrong, its wrong and the noise is getting louder, mechanical and foreboding as it sees you, it knows you are there, and it wants to make you apart of it.

For a moment, there is quiet.

You breathe.

And fall through water.

[The room, like many rooms before, appears to be converted from some abandoned work area in the sewers. Though there is no fusion this time. The room seems to be simpler, instead of an amalgamation, its more like a moment in time.]

[Where there had been signs of overt tech, or a stupid amount of teenager vibe, this room is almost devoid of any sort of tech. There are crates of various supplies, mostly emergency supply types, like rations, and space blankets, things kept on hand and easily accessed.]

[There is an armchair, worn with age, and several bean bags. There are a scattering of toys, most in some state of disrepair. Action figures missing limbs, balls with patched up holes. Cardboard covered in paint or crayon drawings. Nothing is new.]

[There are only two signs of tech; the lights that were already part of the work area.]

[And a projector. The cover is off its back, with wires held together with those plastic ties from bread bags, and paperclips.]

[There Donnie is sitting beside the projector, looking no older than seven, wearing an oversized hoody, and glasses taped to his head.]

[His brothers, around the same age as Donnie, and Splinter are also there, watching a Lou Jitsu movie with excited babbling, Splinter explaining bits of trivia of the movie, Leo listening with rapt attention as Mikey and Raph try to mimick something on screen.]

[The moment is warmth and purpose as the young Donnie watches his family more than the movie, looking nothing less than perfectly content and proud.]

[A room that isn't representing an aspect of personality...but seemingly just a moment in time.]

The family, all together. And one of those old-style holos?

[Fuck. That’s a direct hit on her emotions. She’s going to glance a the cardboard art - this is just how she does things I’m sorry - but ultimately, she’s going to swallow, and approach the family.

There’s a little part of her that can’t help but try, something deep down that’s never truly been satisfied or given up on: to sit, even for a moment, and act like she could be in a scene like this.]

[Baby]

[There's nothing too odd about the drawings. A lot of buildings, like castles or ships, both the water and space variety, forests and fields. Stuff for the environment of play.]

[Most of the Hamatos won't acknowledge her presence, but they never do anything like go through her or get uncomfortably close.]

[Donnie is the exception, looking over with a smile.] First movie in three weeks. [He puts a hand on the projector.]

[She whispers, even though the other Hamatos haven't reacted to her. That's what you do when you're watching holos together, isn't it?]

So it's a special occasion.

[Donnie nods and points to the projector.] First fix.

[She scoots over, and inspects the back of the projector more closely.]

Was it hard?

[He shakes his head.] The logic makes sense.

[It is a paperclip repair job, very much scavenged bobs and ends, but it does work and its not going to fry anytime soon.]

It looks good to me. And everyone's enjoying it.

Movies always important. It was sad when it broke.

Did you and your brothers break it while playing?

[Glancing at Mikey and Raph trying to mimic the movie.]

[He nods.] Knocked it over.

But you took responsibility, and fixed it. That's good.

And next you’ll be working on improving the design?

Many designs. And everything else.

[A flash across the screen of ever improving inventions over time, getting more and more wild, before flickering back to the movie.]

[Glancing over to the screen.]

Machines for my family. Tech. Inventions.

[Ah.]

[Shakes his head.]

Not here. This is a memory. Outside is good.

I’ll hit you with some ideas later, then.

Maybe right now - I just watch the holo with you boys.

[He beams at that and he'll pull up a spare beanbag for her to sit on.]

[Time to watch some Lou Jitsu. Welcome to cheesy kung fu action movie with some AWESOME stunts and a ridiculous amount of food based puns.]

[ TINY DONNIE ...

Hunter is just - so enamored with the scene? He winds up quietly sitting behind the other Hamato brothers for a moment, shoulders hunched as he tries not to interrupt. ]

This is ... this is really nice.

[It doesn't seem like most of the Hamatos notice him. But notably, they never go through him or get uncomfortably close.]

[But the tiny Donnie does, moving looking over and smiling, coming over to sit beside him.]

First time I fixed something.

[ so cute. Hunter shifts a bit closer, still giving him that bit of space. ]

Yeah? The TV?

[Tiny Donnie leans against him and nods.] Projector.

Dad couldn't fix it. Scavenging a working one was hard.
